Norway-Maere-Rognwald and Rolf Nefio

This video is of Maere, Norway. Rognwald, Rollon’s father, and  his mother, Hildir, daughter of Rolf Nefio, were from here. Rognwald was Count of Maere. So this would have been Rollon’s home. Excavations have been done under this church and some Viking artifacts have been found. They are representations of the Viking gods, and it is assumed this was a meeting place for worshiping the gods. It has been customary to build new churches on top of old churches as a way of replacing the old gods with the new. St. Olaf brought Christianity to Norway and helped bring about the demise of the worship of Viking gods. Most churches today in Norway are Protestant state churches.
